The ACT Bilingual Education Alliance (ACTBEA) is a local non-profit community group that celebrates and promotes multilingualism in the Canberra region. The Alliance supports family-based bilingualism as well as formal bilingual education programs, from preschool years throughout primary and secondary schooling, both mainstream and community based. The Alliance also encourages adults to maintain or develop their bilingual skills.
The Alliance includes educators, academics, principals, teachers, community language school representatives, tutors, parents, adult students, and others who recognise the importance of learning another language, not only for its own sake and for the cultural insights it brings, but also for the associated benefits such learning has on general educational achievement.
The Alliance organises informative talks and social networking events for families raising children in more than one language and others who are interested in/involved in languages education. ACTBEA is happy to visit playgroups, preschools and schools interested in bilingualism and bilingual education. We can also provide tailored talks for teachers, staff, and/or parents of children who attend these groups/schools.
ACT Bilingual Education Alliance is affiliated with Canberra Multicultural Community Forum Incand works cooperatively with other local groups and organisations that promote multilingualism and language learning.
